Who we are
Ecoviato is a Moroccan travel company. We design private journeys through this country for people who want more than a photograph of a dune — travellers who want to understand where they are, eat what grows nearby, and meet the people who live there.
The name is built from three pieces. Eco, for the natural world and a light footprint. Via, for the route — the journey itself rather than a checklist of sights. And to, the beginning of tours, because in the end that is what we do: we take people places.
What we do today
We run private tours across Morocco. The imperial cities — Marrakech, Fes, Meknes, Rabat. The blue lanes of Chefchaouen and the Roman ruins at Volubilis. The High Atlas passes, the kasbahs of the Dades and Draa valleys, the gorges at Todra, and nights under the stars in the dunes of Erg Chebbi.
Every trip is private. You travel with your own driver-guide and vehicle, at your own pace, with an itinerary shaped around your dates rather than a fixed departure calendar. We handle the accommodation, the transport, the licensed local guides in each city, and the parts that are difficult to arrange from abroad.
What makes us different
Most Morocco itineraries sell the same week whatever month you arrive. Marrakech, a kasbah, one night in the desert, and back. It is a good week — but it is identical in February and October, and it drives straight past the thing we find most interesting about this country.
Morocco is roughly the size of Spain, with two coastlines, three mountain ranges, cedar forest, oases, waterfalls and a great deal of farmland. Something is in blossom or in harvest almost every month of the year. Almond blossom whitens the Anti-Atlas in February. In May, roses in the Dades Valley are cut before sunrise, while the oil is still in the petals. Women’s cooperatives crack argan nuts by hand through the summer. October brings dates along the desert rivers, saffron in the mountains around Taliouine, and apples in Midelt. In November, whole families gather under the olive trees.
That is the working life of Morocco, and almost none of it appears on a standard tour.
Something new is on the way
Alongside our tours we are developing a different way to experience Morocco, built around the country’s nature and its seasons. It is not open yet, and we will announce it here when it is.
In the meantime we are writing about this side of the country — the landscapes, the seasons, the wild places — in our journal, so that anyone curious can follow along.
How we work
- Moroccan-run. Local guides, local drivers, local hosts. This is our country, not a destination we researched.
- Small groups. A village or a family farm can welcome a handful of people properly. It cannot welcome a coach.
- Honest advice. If your dates do not suit what you want to see, we will tell you. We would rather you came back in the right month than left disappointed.
- Nothing forced. No commission shopping stops, no surprise extras, no pressure.
